Day 10 of 34 of Deuteronomy Bible Studies. We are also at part ten. In this chapter, the Lord God requires four things from Moses. Let us look at them. First, Moses is to remake two tablets of stone for the commandments. Secondly, he is to,"make an ark of shittim wood". Thirdly, he is to return to mount Horeb for a re-writing of the commandments. Finally, he is to "put them (tablets) into the ark". These requirements will play a underlying role in how the Lord God's covenanted people live their lives.
According to Exodus 32:19, Moses was angry when "...he saw the calf, and the dancing:..., and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them under the mount."

Consequently, the Lord instructs Moses to remake the two tablets of stone. After that he is to return to Him in Horeb for a re-writing of the commandments on the new stones. This Moses did. This act of God, signifies the importance of the written contract in the lives of the children of Israel. Although the Lord told them the details of the contract in Horeb, He saw it accepted to have a written report too. This is a permanent reminder of the promise between God and Israel. Later, if Israel were to say, we do not remember what the Lord said to us in Horeb, these "tables of stone" are witnesses against them.
No turn was made to the traditional covenant." 4And he wrote on the tables, agreeing to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the Lord spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the Lord gave them unto me ".
Friends, like Israel, we need to exemplify the importance of our contract with the Lord. We can achieve this in our everyday life. In our conversation we must speak the words of God. In our daily activities ensure we do His commands. Make the Lord the center and focus of our lives. Worship and serve Him and Him only. Obey His commandments and keep and meditate on His Words.
After the death of Aaron the Lord makes an critical divergence among His covenanted people. Namely, He established "a called out" among "the called out" for Himself. This is the definition of the church, "a called out", the ecclesia. This is the first time the Lord has done this. The Lord, by Moses, "separated the tribe of Levi, to"carry" the ark of the contract of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister" to "him, and to bless in his name", even to "this day", 10:8. By this action, the Lord God created a contract within a covenant. He promised the Levis, Himself as their inheritance they would not be given any of the "good land". See 10:9.
How is this important to the us today? Moses and Israel was "the church in the wilderness". That church is a fore-shadowing of the "New Testament" or "New Covenant" church. In other words, the contemporary church of our days. Among God's covenanted people everyone has his designated function. The Lord God assigns to the tribe of Levi, the life long function as priest. These minister of God certainly carry the "word of God" for the whole nation of Israel. This is an awesome responsibility. Israel was a "wandering nation". So, whenever they were absorbing from one location to another Only the current designated Levites could touch the ark of the covenant. Initially, even before these minister could "bear" the ark, they had to go straight through a process of separation, purification and anointing with oil.
Finally, in every epoch the Lord God all the time ensures He has a "called out" someone or group form His covenanted people to "bare" His words. He had a "called out" in the Ante Diluvian Age, from Adam to Noah. He had one in the Post Diluvian Age, from Noah to the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lord God has a church in the present Age, from the resurrection of King Jesus until his Second Advent. In ever dispensation this ecclesia, carries, ministers (serve) and bless God's covenanted people using God's words.
See Acts 6:1-4. "The Twelve" disciples devoted themselves "...continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word". In principle, this is the same function as the priests in the wilderness.
Who are you in contract with? Do Not just come to be a member of a church: Instead Be Born Again into a "New Covenant" or "New Testament" church of King Jesus Christ, agreeing to His words. I am praying that you will!
