As a small firm owner, the economy has not been very kind lately, but please don't despair. I'm saying that too as a small firm owner myself. Sure, it's easy for me to say that, but the worst thing you can do is despair because you will not move send if you do. The good news is that there are opportunities out there to get more customers so that you can growth your business.
First of all, you have to comprehend that the landscape out there is changing with regards to your clients behavior on how they look for businesses. Before, if they needed a local business, what would they do? They would go to the phone book and look up a business. Maybe they would talk to their friends and neighbors for a recommendation. While that still happens, that trend is on the decrease.

What are habitancy doing now? They are using the internet. The more ubiquitous the internet gets (laptops, movable phones, tablet computers, etc.), the more this trend will increase. When a client wants to find a type of firm today, what they do is go to Google and type in the type of firm they are seeing for. Not the name of the business, but the type; Accountant, Florist, Lawyer or Attorney, Hair Salon, Restaurant, etc.
But I know that most of you reading this will have a gut reaction when I mention the internet, because that implies that you need to get complex in the internet. I know a lot of you don't understand the internet, let alone marketing on the internet. Who can blame you when you're so busy with your own business; it's not your fault that you haven't gotten complex in the internet. And maybe you have worked with somebody in the past to generate your website, and had a bad touch with the cost charged to you or the hassle working with habitancy who couldn't talk in your language and everything they said went over your head.
So I sort of painted a grim photograph and stated that you shouldn't despair, I know, easy for me to say. But let me give you a direction and some information that will help you get more customers to growth your business.
Right now, go to the internet and type in your type of business. What you should see is a listing of local businesses that show up on a map. Notice that only the top 7 appear here. Also note that a lot of these businesses have reviews related with them.
Let me explicate how you get listed here. Google has a free aid called Google Places that allows a local firm to customize an online listing that gives possible customers everything they need to know about your business; phone number, address, website, services offered, products carried, etc. Accessing Google Places and entering your own information and claiming that listing as your own is important to get the high listing that you need.
The other thing that is important is getting reviews. Now a lot of these reviews happen automatically when a client is very happy with your aid or can happen when the client has had a horrible experience. At this point, just comprehend that they occur and that you can see them yourself. Look for your firm in Yelp, Yahoo, Google and City Search. Here you will find any reviews that might exist about your business. If you're seeing a trend of bad reviews, then that is a sign to you that you need to do some damage control.
To wrap up here, there are possible clients out there searching online for your type of firm every single day. In order to have a chance of catching some of these leads, you need to be ranked high in the map listing we talked about previously. You want to be ranked in the top 7 minimally so you show up, but ideally in position 1 because it's human nature to click on the top rated business, not the last one. The other important factor is reviews. The more reviews you have along with the information you put into your Google Places listing are two main factors that will decide you ranking position. Work on these two main factors and you will start seeing your firm growth in its ranking position and subsequently more phone calls and visits to your business.
